The following describes the business continuity and disaster recovery policies that Project Hosts has in place for its customers.

Protection against System Failures

  1. Power and network: All of Project Hosts' data centers are SAS70 II certified with redundant power and networking. In the event of a power outage, banks of APCs maintain continuous power to servers until backup diesel generators take over the load.

  2. Server components: Project Hosts servers have multiple power supplies and mirrored disks that continue to work even when one fails. Raid 10 mirroring is used for the disks since it gives full mirror protection while maintaining top performance.

  3. Hot spare servers: Project Hosts has hot spare servers in the production cabinets and connected to power and network. If a production server has a system failure, a data center engineer pops out the disks and inserts them into a spare to bring the environment back online within minutes.

  4. Data backup: Log backups of customer databases are taken every four hours and kept onsite for 2 days. Incremental backups are taken daily and kept 2 weeks. Weekly full backups are kept for four weeks.

  5. Offsite backup: Daily and weekly backups are moved to another Project Hosts data center in a different geographical region to protect against disasters at the primary data center. Since backups are moved offsite daily, the maximum potential data loss in the event of a site disaster is one day.


Disaster Recovery Options

Project Hosts has multiple data centers and three options to guard against a disaster that would destroy a primary data center or otherwise take it offline.

  1. Default: Project Hosts rebuilds a customer's deployment in another data center. Rebuilding will be done within two weeks or less, depending on the severity of the disaster. This DR option is included by default in all Project Hosts pricing.

  2. Virtual DR server: For customers that choose this option, Project Hosts deploys a virtual DR server in another data center that is geographically remote from the production data center. In the event of a disaster in the primary data center, the DR environment will be online within 1 day.

  3. Custom DR infrastructure: For customers that have opted for a custom DR infrastructure, Project Hosts deploys dedicated physical and/or virtual servers in a physically remote data center. These servers mirror the primary production infrastructure. Custom DR solutions are typically designed to have a customer's DR environment online within as little as 4 hours.
