Healthcare continues to be a popular target for cyber criminals. Recently, a major hospital system was hit with, what is potentially the largest cyber-attack in US history. The hospital was forced to resort to manually filing patients using pen and paper due to the “IT security issue”.
While it has not yet been confirmed by the hospital as a ransomware attack, a person familiar with the company’s response said that the attack, “looks and smells like ransomware”.
Healthcare companies are less likely to have a full technical staff working over weekends, which makes for an ideal time for cyber criminals to strike. Anonymous sources revealed that the attack occurred over the weekend.
At Project Hosts, we mitigate such attacks through our defense-in-depth strategy which includes firewalls, whitelisting, multifactor authentication, 24/7 active and passive scanning and any other requirements set forth by a requested security standard, ie. ISO 27001, HITRUST or FedRAMP.
Project Hosts implements security and compliance on Azure for US Federal Government, healthcare, financial, energy, and enterprise organizations. Our pre-audited PaaS environments give organizations turnkey compliance for their entire applications, removing a key barrier to migration from on-premises or AWS deployments into Azure.
