SSRS Dashboard

Description

Project Hosts' SSRS Report Enabler for Project Online is a service that allows customers to create Business Intelligence (BI) reports using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Analysis Services (SSAS - aka OLAP). The user experience is completely seamless -- users view reports by simply clicking on a link in Project Online and then view SSRS and/or SSAS-powered reports of their Project Online data, without any additional logins.

Authentication

By incorporating Project Hosts' ARGON software on both sides, users' Office 365 accounts will automatically authenticate to the SSRS platform so there are no additional logins required.

Companies that are using single sign-on from their corporate network to Office 365 is also supported by the SSRS Report Enabler.

SSRS Custom Cloud

How does it work?

The SSRS Report Enabler for Project Online service integrates two cloud services, making it a hybrid cloud service offering. The service uses SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) over OData to periodically export data from a customer's Project Online tenant to a dedicated SQL Server that is running both SSRS and SSAS. Report developers are given admin access to SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS, so they can decide which data to pull from their Office 365 databases, build OLAP cubes, and write SSRS reports.

Who is it for?

The service answers the need that many large enterprises, government agencies and mid-sized businesses have for integrating pre-existing processes and SQL Server-based data within their project and portfolio management environment. These pre-existing processes typically include specific reports that give them exactly the information they need to make critical decisions in a timely manner. By not having SSRS (or SSAS) reporting capabilities, organizations must manually collect information from a number of sources and reenter this data, or utilize other processes typically outside of their direct control.

What are some examples?

In each of these cases, It is possible to get some of this information using Excel services through OData, but the reports take a long time to populate and they do not automatically refresh. In addition, Excel Services do not have the nice reporting "widgets" that SSRS has, such as gauges, specialized charts, and other elements.

Why Choose The SSRS Report Enabler (as opposed to building it yourself)

"…many organizations have needs for deep customization, white-glove services, or support for complex models like hybrid hosting. For these customers, Project Hosts' PPM Custom Cloud offers a great option."
